The King’s Spring

The name reveals that this must have been the area where the troops of King Alfonso XI established themselves during the siege of the La Mota Fortress. At the beginning of the XX Century, it became home to the summer gardens of the wealthy and some of the buildings correspond to this era. The most interesting are: La Coronada Chapel, where the image of Santa María, of high medieval typology and similar to the virgins that accompanied the King on his military missions, is worshipped. And the XVIII Century laundry, financed by Abbot Esteban Lorenzo de Mendoza y Gatica, which is decorated with copies of the different Coats of Arms found on the façades of the buildings in this area.
