“Life on the Border” Interpretation Centre

Alcalá la Real has been declared a Historical Site, and the La Mota Fortress and its walls, the Alcazaba and the network of watchtowers connected to the latter, have all been declared Cultural Assets of Andalusia. This has now become a benchmark within the Cultural Routes of Andalusia, being the largest example of well-preserved Hispano-Arabic urbanism. The restoration and museological conversion of the heritage within the enclosure, follows a linked, interpretive pattern so as to inform the visitor about how people lived within a fortified city during an era characterized by continued instability between Muslims and Christians along the border.
